The Process:
The process begins with a quote request by a General Contractor, a Stone Mason/Setter, or a Stone Fabricator. We require a set of architectural plans (hard copy, on disk, or emailed) along with a stone quantity takeoff in order to provide a fee proposal. Because Client’s needs are never the same, our proposal will be customized for your specific needs, whether it be an all-inclusive package consisting of approval drawings, numbered setting drawings, full size templates, and shop fabrication tickets, or only a portion of these services. The fee proposal will: outline the scope of work to be performed, define the terms and conditions, provide target completion date(s), establish provisions for changes to the scope after work commences, and quote a rate (if time-and-material basis) or a lump sum amount. Once the proposal has been accepted, we begin the approval drawings which will be submitted for review by the G.C. and Architect. Quite often, the approval drawings are also submitted to the Stone Setter and Engineer for input on anchoring calculations and methods. After the shop drawings have been approved, each piece of stone is numbered, and shop tickets are generated for fabrication in a shop. If full-size templates are needed, they will be sent along with the tickets to the fabricator. Once the fabricated stone is delivered to the jobsite, the Setter uses the numbered Setting Drawings to identify where each piece is to be installed, and the method for attachment.
The Tools:
All of our drawings are produced electronically with AutoCAD® software running on state-of-the-art computer systems. Most of our work is accomplished with 2D drawings, but occasionally a drawing is best represented using 3D modeling.
We strive to “give you more for less” whenever possible. One way we do this is by making use of the internet for data exchange. If the contract documents are available online, we can download and print them out, without the client having to incur expenses for courier charges. Likewise, we can email our drawings and/or tickets to be printed out locally. However, if the client prefers, we can always ship drawings the old-fashioned way. Another helpful tool that we have developed is a Shop Ticket Summary, which provides valuable information such as square footage and cubic footage totals automatically, precisely, and quickly.
